The Trott House Inn

The Trott House Inn had humble beginnings in 1897, as a small cabin utilized by the Wanamaker family and their business partners as lodging during visits to Newton from Pennsylvania. In the early 1900s the property was purchased by William Walker Trott, and in 1916 a substantial renovation of the original cabin was completed, and is the structure which still stands today. In the early 90s the Trott House fell into disrepair with the passing of the youngest two Trott children: Linda Trott Corriher and John Burdette Trott, who lived in the home until their passing.

In 1994 the home was purchased by Mary Spiggle, a Florida native, with the goal and intention of renovating the home to become the town’s first bed and breakfast. This renovation was completed in 1995 and The Trott House Inn was born. Shortly thereafter, Ms. Spiggle and her business partner sold the inn to Mrs. Anne Jordan (formerly Steadman). Anne, a Newton native, growing up on 8th Street, built and grew the B&B from the ground up. For nearly 20 years, she ran the inn hosting numerous parties and events, as well as notable guests such as Denzel Washington and family.

In 2018, another Anne, Mrs. Anne Abernathy Wepner, purchased The Trott House, in hopes of continuing the strong legacy that Mrs. Jordan had set forth. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, small bed and breakfasts were hard hit, and operations were unfortunately forced to cease for a period of time.

In June of 2022, the new, and current owners, and lucky keepers of this historic property, Miles and Makenzie Saenger, purchased the inn. Both Catawba County natives, growing up in the Mt. View area, Miles and Makenzie were keen to return to their hometown and re-establish roots in the community. Their hope is that The Trott House Inn will continue to be a pillar of joy, community, and history in Newton and surrounding areas for generations to come.
